Letting Go

It is not news to me that part of moving forward in life is letting go of things in the past that have served as limiting factors. I did have an epiphany recently that changed my views of what letting go means.

I was taught that letting go meant forgiveness and forgetting. I’ve challenged that thought since I was taught that’s what it is meant. We all encounter offenses that can’t be forgiven and we even encounter offenses that certainly shouldn’t be forgotten and even those that can not be forgotten.

Letting go has come to mean- stop giving those things that can’t be forgiven or forgotten power to control your present and future. Learn from them, no matter how hard or emotional the lessons are, take what you need from them and move on. Maybe someday the time for forgiving and forgetting will occur, maybe it won’t. You alone have to choice as to what you allow control you.

I lived for years letting fears born of things that happened to me as a child govern me to the core. It’s hard to shake things like that and I only recently started challenging those boundaries that had been applied to my life. No one applied those boundaries but me. They were a safety net, built to keep me safe from the things I had learned to fear. Slowly I’m breaking through them. In this I’m gaining confidence I have never felt before. Some of these things have been addressed, forgiven and put in the back of my mind. Some things I’m not forgiving and certainly not forgetting, I’m letting go. I’m not letting them control me any longer, I’m pushing through them and healing.

I can’t say I set many resolutions this year. More so thought about where I wanted my life to go and what steps I’d need to take to get there. Of those here are I guess what my resolutions for this year are:

1-Healthier eating and exercise habits. This will be beneficial in accomplishing a good few of my goals in life.

2-Get back to writing. Be it on here, my kombucha blog, a book I’m working on, poetry, or in an actual journal I need to get back to writing.

3-Spending more time with loved ones.

4- Using my creative abilities on a more regular basis.

There are more but in my groggy mind those are the ones that stand out to me this morning.

Ever wondered what it’s like to get a shipment from Ponoko? The video shows Garland West, an artist/crafter outside of Charlotte NC, unboxing her recent lasercut order featuring a variety of materials and sheet sizes.

You can see her peeling the protective paper and popping out her designs including bamboo business cards, acrylic jewelry, and a big red octopus.

“A lot of the items you see in the unboxing video are pledge rewards for my Kickstarter project,” she says.

Some of my followers may remember me saying a friend of mine lost their home, all of their personal belongings and their professional photography equipment in a fire. Austin is a long time friend of mine and he has started an Indiegogo to raise funds to help rebuild his life.
